Diploma of Screen (Animation) - Overview

The Interactive Animation Diploma program offers students the opportunity to study all aspects of Interactive Animation. In these courses students acquire comprehensive skills in computer-generated 2D & 3D graphics and animation using the industry’s most widely used 3D software packages. SAE provides an understanding of the systems and equipment used for creating animation and the practical experience in production techniques and design concepts. Students can also go onto gaining expertise in digital animation production and business management, marketing and communications, and knowledge of the contemporary ‘infotainment’ industry through the 2nd year Bachelor level. Successful completion of the diploma level gives graduates the possibility to continue their studies towards a Bachelor program.

Computer animation is being used extensively - both in the games industry, which has a high demand for animators and also in the film and television industries. Film studios are animating fight sequences that take too long to film with real actors, online games are being used for marketing and advertising as well as entertainment and students are learning via computer simulation using extensive animation.

Entry Requirements
Completion of 2 GCE O-levels and a pass in English in the same sitting or equivalent for International students
Or SAE Video/Film Certificate ; and
Mature age of over 17 years;
SAE Institute recognizes prior learning and work experiences for advanced course standing and also has entry options for students who do not meet the above entry requirements.

For international students:

IELTS overall band score 6.0 or above; or
TOEFL overall grade of 550 or above (paper-based); or
TOEFL overall grade of 213 or above (computer-based); or
TOEFL overall grade of 79 or above (internet-based); or
A high school transcript showing proof of satisfactory English to year 10 or higher.


Degree Pathway

After successful completion of the SAE Institute Diploma, students are able to continue their studies to the degree level. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Interactive Animation degree is issued in partnership with Middlesex University.
